FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A nd important information to help us give you our best possible show! Please read carefully.

Type of Show Bellydance shows are fun, high energy and sexy while still being G-rated! Capes or veils are often used, as are finger cymbals. Music is a combination of modern bellydance, arabic and/or Persian pop music and world/fusion music. We only book the best, most professional and experienced dancers in the business with the most elaborate costumes and highest show quality.

Group shows with Venus & Her Desert Stars Student Revue Group shows can be fun because we can offer more variety of style in music, costuming and type of dance. We can provide choreographed group dances from modern techno-fusion, to traditional folkloric, to glamourous cabaret. More dancers always mean more energy (and of course greater cost). Please allow as much lead time as possible when booking our group as it takes time to check the dancers' availabiity and craft the show. Group shows are best suited to large venues with ample dance floors and an audience that enjoys sitting and being entertained for 20 minutes or more. Solo or duo shows are better for a more intimate party atmosphere in which the guests are also in an active dancing mood, but will also entertain and delight audiences that want to sit and enjoy the show.

Length of Show Standard show length for a restuarant, banquet or home party setting is 15-20 minutes. This is usually sufficient for groups up to 100 people. For small groups and daytime "bellygram" shows, 5-10 minutes may be sufficient. For very large groups or audiences that enjoy a longer show, an additional song can be added at no extra cost--this is best "played by ear" at the time of the performance (tipping for longer shows is much appreciated).

Price

  • Solo shows for private parties begin at $150 + GST for a 15-20 minute performance.
  • Duo shows start at $300 + GST for two professional dancers.
  • Group show fees must be negotiated based on the type of show required.
  • Additional shows within one hour of the first are half price.
  • Additional travel fees may apply depending on location.
  • If the dancer is required to wait more than 20 minutes past the appointed time booked for the show, additional fees will be charged.

Music The dancer will bring her/his own music - CD or iPod. The dancer's music will begin with an instrumental introduction and the dancer will enter when the music gets faster. The sound system MUST be in the same room as the dancer. Please ensure music is good and loud (not background level) for everyone's enjoyment of the show. IMPORTANT: portable CD players are NOT sufficient for shows - a good home stereo system is required for home parties, professional DJ setup for larger venues. We can bring our own sound system and DJ for an additional fee of $125 + GST.

Tipping Tipping is not a requirement but is appreciated. Clients may tip the dancer upon leaving the site or during the performance (this can be a fun way to get audience members up to dance and interact with the dancer). When tipping during a performance, please wait until the dancer has finished the veil section and has begun to invite people onto the dance floor. Please exhibit respect and decorum when tipping the dancer. Tips are not accepted in the bra. The dancer reserves the right to end a performance at any time if she/he is made to feel uncomfortable--fulll payment will be required.

Performance Space A professional bellydance performer can make do with quite a small space to dance in but please consider the following guidelines:

  • make as much space as possible by pushing back furniture
  • remove loose area rugs to prevent tripping
  • remove precious breakable items or lit candles from low tables
  • close outside doors to prevent drafts in cold weather
  • turn off television or additional music sources in the room
  • ensure there is a clear path for the dancer to enter the performance space
  • if the performance is on a festival or other type of stage, please ensure there are no cords or other articles left on stage that may be tripped on and that microphone stands are removed from the front to the back or offstage.
  • please avoid using areas under low-hanging plants, lamps or fans.

Lighting For larger shows we offer small to mid-range sized stage/disco lighting setup. Please contact us with details of your event so we can provide a a quote.

Courtesy & Consideration When the dancer arrives, please show her/him immediately to a room where she can prepare, remove coats, etc. You will be given the CD when she has had a chance to get organized. Please provide a private, secure, warm area for the dancer to change and prepare before and after her/his show. We thank you kindly for providing water immediately after the performance. It is the client's/host's responsibility to deal immediately with any audience members who hinder the dancer's performance or behave inappropriately.

Safety For everyone's safety, please ensure small children and dogs are not loose in the dancer's performance area. Dancers cannot peform on grass or dangerously uneven or slippery surfaces. Outdoor decks are usually ok. Please see notes on Performance Space.
